The A- Team

Project Management

Project management and following a binding schedule, were two factors that enabled us to deliver this project. Each week, a schedule with deadlines for upcoming tasks was produced so that everybody was on track. Overall, the engagement, cooperation, and team spirit throughout the project were extraordinarily strong. We managed to have regular meetings with our project supervisor who nurtured the progress of our project.

All members of the group come from a different background. We have James (Scotland, Chemical), Raph (Ireland, Petroleum), Laxmi (Nepal, Chemical), Andreas (Cyprus, Mechanical), and Stefan (Switzerland, Building Technology). In the beginning, all we shared was a common interest in renewable energy and district heating. However, cultural diversity and the diversity of backgrounds soon became an advantage since this helped in challenging each other’s results and sharing knowledge.

Communication was key to this. The group relied on Zoom-meetings when people were abroad, but generally met at least once a week in person to scrutinise progress and decide upon next steps. Typically, this was done in brainstorming sessions leading to an aggregation of decisions on the white board. During the week before industry day, the group met daily using this method to prepare the final presentation. Outside meetings, spontaneous questions and needs were exchanged in a WhatsApp group.

Data was shared on OneDrive enabling every member of the team to work on the same file at the same time. This was especially helpful during Zoom-sessions when results were collected and arranged, and everybody could collaborate adding content.

This group project formed friendships and we are deeply thankful for this opportunity! It goes unsaid that many a fight needed to be concluded. That is why we provide these “Reflexions of a Journey in Four Acts – A squib on The A-Team”.

Reflexions of a Journey in Four Acts – A squib

Act I – Background

Once upon a time in the North, a fearless mountaineer left her country to breach the final frontier. In the grey and cold city of Glaschu, La-Subi got to know a white-haired man. He was a seasoned officer of a foreign army and they joined forces – Fennel was his name. As they travelled on, they picked up a diver of ancient breed. His people were renowned miners, Amious he called himself. Further and further, they ventured to finally solve the secret of Renow – the everlasting source of energy. On their way, two natives joined – one dark, one fair. The dark feared speeches whilst the fair was silver-tongued. Thus, the half-brethren Rawi and Jawi completed the crew.

Act II – Beginning

Reaching the starting point of their quest, they stepped onto a road not knowing where they might be swept off to. Indeed, they found themselves starting on an expedition which would lead them to boldly go where no man has ever gone before. First, they struggled to find their mentor, Master Dacos. Their eldest, Pau-Ty, calmed them in weekly gatherings telling stories of his own adventures. In his former days, he strived to find the passive buildings which in this northerly region are rare and set far apart. They need to be carefully nurtured to bloom: MVHR, ACR, U-V, psi, and g.tau were to be balanced carefully to master this special skill.

Act III – Culmination

Finally, Master Dacos was able to get in touch and consequently helped them along their way. He assigned them their first task: To beat the ominous Info-Gath. After they successfully collected enough paper to beat this fearful enemy, the team travelled on and passed the clouds of the realm of Dunno-We’are. On the other side, they explored the rich lands of Defi-Scope. Next, Dacos sent them to the insect-infested swamps of Mode-Ling. Only the most hardened of the group, Ami, dived in head-first. Whilst the brethren Rawi and Jawi carefully tried to make their way through the bogs, La-Subi and Fennel were lost in the swirling mists.

Act IV – Solution

La-Subi relied on a charm from T whilst Fennel used a map provided by DaiCha to come back to Glaschu. In the end, hope was found in the Tower of Livi.ng. Here, all members henceforth assembled devotedly – some earlier, some later. The magic of the With-Boa was invoked to use artefacts from beating Info-Gath to be combined with collected clues from Defi-Scope and enriched by skills from Mode-Ling. As a result, the four purest elements: TES, PV, Retro, and WHR could be distilled. ‘Connecting those dots’ opened the door to the gate of Ti-Li. It is thus told, that in ancient times five fearless warriors were able to solve the problem of Renow for the UoS.
